“It is a joy to watch him grow before my eyes.”

“Always put your family first. Give them your time and affection and be sure to raise your child in a way so that they are useful to society” is the advice Robert, Lakou team member, would like to give all fathers.

Robert and Lakou founder, Randy Meyer, met back in 2011. He expresses that through his connection with Randy and participation in Lakou he has not only learned countless new construction techniques but has become more equipped to take care of his family.

Two-thirds of Haiti’s labor force do not have formal jobs. In regards to economic opportunities that do arise, there is a significant shortage of skilled labor. Lakou’s vision is to shift this reality--particularly for fathers who might not otherwise have a way to support their families.

“The program teaches me new skills and techniques and also connects me with work opportunities that keep my family above water” says Robert of his experience as an apprentice with Lakou.

Robert shares that he felt a deep sense of fulfillment when he became a father. He has one child; a 2 year old son. “It is a joy to watch him grow before my eyes. He makes me have more discipline in the way that I live so that I can always meet his needs and keep a smile on his face.”
