More Jobs, Less Poverty

A word from Luvthageline Jean, IGSA’s Administrative and Financial Coordinator

In a country like Haiti, where the unemployment rate is very high, for me, a job is very important.

Simply put, if we create more jobs, there will be less unemployment, less poverty, and less hunger in the country.

People will have economic freedom to support themselves and their families. Children will be able to go to school and become honest citizens who will be able to contribute to the future development of their country.

Adults will be able to pay their taxes as required by law, and if this money is spent as it should be, then we will begin to see the importance of jobs, and the impact that it has on the development of Haiti.

Having a job is of paramount importance. Someone who works in a poor country is often responsible for a whole family (brother, sister, cousin), who, unfortunately, can't find a job.

As an employee of IGSA and Lakou, this job opportunity has a significant impact on my life. On a micro level, it allows me to meet my needs. On a macro level, it allows me to contribute to the national income of the country by paying taxes.

In general, someone who has a job in Haiti plays an important role in the economic fabric of the country.

As an accountant, I am the one who manages the numbers every Friday and I am happy to see the pride in our students that comes from the ability to work and take care of their families.

What Lakou is doing in Haiti is exceptional because it puts the focus on work, education, respect, and humility.
