Haiti's Independence Day

In 1791, Haitian slaves led a revolution in the French colony of Santo Domingo that lasted for over 12 years. Fast forward to January 1, 1804, Haiti made history by being the first black republic in the world and the first country in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery. Still today, the Haitian revolution remains the only successful anti-slavery revolution in history. The Haitian revolution, with its triumphs and struggles, remains a landmark event for democratic and egalitarian movements around the world.

Around the world, January 1st is known as New Year’s Day, but in Haiti we are celebrating Haiti’s Independence Day. Being free is a great struggle, but building a nation and being independent is important to the Haitian community. This is why we have committed ourselves as an organization in this country, because through education, teamwork and a good work ethic, we are helping these people regain their strength to build their dignity and for Haiti to be stronger than before.

Developing and strengthening our community through hard work in the right direction allows us all to grow and prosper over time.

Happy Haitian Independence Day!
